Hacking Early Childhood interdisciplinary report is now available

15 November 2022

NIHR CYP MedTech joined a multi-agency collaboration to look at how emerging Digital technologies are likely to change early childhood,  and explore whether technological advances undermine, or enable, early childhood development. The ways in which we think of ‘technology’ as adults differs from the way children view it and may be more important than we think.

New technologies continue to revolutionise the world as we have known it. There is no reason to think that early childhood will be spared this revolution. All indications are that technology companies, families, carers, and the education sector will continue to incorporate innovation into the lives of babies and young children around the globe. And yet the topic and the wider implications of these changes have received minimal discussion by children, and those who care for them.

To explore these ideas, NIHR CYP MedTech participated in an interdisciplinary workshop with colleagues from The Royal Academy of Engineering, Newcastle University, Human Sciences Research Council, NIHR Innovation Observatory and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
