NIHR Funding to Support Children and Young People’s Mental Health

NIHR CYP MedTech are pleased to have have received £125,000 from the NIHR to support the mental health of children and young people with long term conditions.

This is part of an award to six NIHR MedTech In-Vitro Co-operatives to add mental health research into their research programmes and develop a national network of experts dedicated to transforming mental health through new medical devices.

Children, young people and their families face significant physical and mental health challenges following a new diagnosis of a long-term condition. Whilst there is significant focus on treating and supporting the physical manifestations of the long-term conditions, for many the mental health challenges are not addressed. The mental health issues experienced in long-term conditions can also affect siblings and parents, particularly when children are diagnosed at an early age.

This funding will allow us to work with theme leads and expert stakeholders to identify areas in which we can provide the best mental health support through innovation and technology, and create an expert network that will continue to address these challenges in the future.
