Long Term Ventilation Innovation Workshop

Tuesday 25 June 2019

On 25 June 2019, NIHR CYP MedTech delivered an innovation workshop focusing on Long Term Ventilation in Children with the aim of identifying potential solutions for unmet clinical needs.

Attendees heard talks about four core areas, including:

  • Advances in ventilator care and monitoring
  • Airway clearance
  • Networked care, communication, and transition
  • What would make the pathway easier? A patient perspective

Attendees also heard an overview of the NCEPOD LTV study and about various examples of innovative technologies developed by Phillips, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Breas Medical Limited, and Aerogen.

After the presentations, attendees split into multidisciplinary discussion groups, each focusing on one of the 4 themes mentioned above, to discuss unmet clinical needs, generate ideas, and develop potential projects.

The meeting was well attended by healthcare professionals, SMEs, industry experts, academics, and parents of children with long term ventilation.

Lab4Living from Sheffield Hallam University collaborated with us to facilitate the day.

We are grateful to Phillips, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Breas Medical Limited, and Aerogen for supporting the workshop, all the speakers, and the attendees for their input and contributions to the day.

Dr Richard Iles leads our Long Term Ventilation theme.
